HISTORY
Built in 1907 by writer Ioan Slavici, one of the most important figures in Romanian literature, this monumental building has shaped the history of Busteni for more than a century. Sold in 1912 to Jean Th. Florescu, the property was transformed in 1915 into one of Romania’s most prestigious spa establishments, making use of the mineral springs in the area.
An elegant casino operated inside the building, and the mineral waters were used until 1942. During the Second World War, the building was converted into an orphanage for war orphans, operating under the name “9 Mai” until 2000.
